Far Rockaway; then and now

The Rockaways have transformed in the last 100 years from playground of the wealthy, to summer resort of the working classes, to poverty and neglect.  All of the grand hotels and most of the bungalows are gone, but many of the Victorian era buildings in downtown Far Rockaway have remained.

                                          the National Bank and the Firehouse

                                           the bank is now a medical center

         but the train station behind it is gone, now a shopping mall parking lot
