Update: Mystery solved! Montrose Morris over at Brownstoner has the history of this house along with great photos — it was the “Raub” house — misidentified by LoC, no wonder I couldn’t find anymore history!
One of the strangest looking houses in NYC
After stumbling across this house on Clarkson Ave. in Brooklyn, I’ve been trying to find information about its history. The bricked in front porch and windows are new, the rest is in a sad state of disrepair with wire mesh holding some of the ornate woodwork from falling apart completely.
I found one old photo from the NYPL collection and architectural drawings from the Historic American Building survey in the Library of Congress, which identifies it as Robb House.
